kcs ARCHITECTS is an architecture firm in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. We are a small bespoke practice of six professionals who design commercial, institutional, municipal, and residential projects, both big and small.  While we have worked throughout the United States, most of our work is in New England.  The natural and cultural environment around us provides our inspiration and our clients provide our purpose. Environmentally sustainable design is integral to our process, and we embrace these principles enthusiastically in our projects, implementing sustainable strategies, materials, and methods in innovative ways suited to a given project and budget.  Our practice specializes in thinking creatively and adaptively, architecturally responding to each project in its own right.

Our first step in the process is to listen to our client's needs and goals for their projects, always keeping their goals at the forefront of our design process.  Design workshops with our clients and project stakeholders are fundamental to our work. We listen to the building occupants and distill their goals into a clear design program moving forward through the project development.  Successful projects go hand in hand with our successful relationships with clients.  We consider our work a collaboration with our clients and value their involvement in the design process.

We provide an initial consultation at no charge.  Contact us to discuss how we can help with your project.

Katie Cassidy Sutherland founded the practice in 2015 and has thirty years of experience in architecture, the last twenty of which have been in New England. The firm’s growth and success over the past decade are driven by its talented design team, which includes Katie Sutherland, Jon Graves, Kayleigh Marshall, Eli Mead, and Nick Tolman. Together, they have delivered outstanding work across residential, commercial, municipal, and institutional projects, emphasizing creativity, sustainability, and community.

kcs ARCHITECTS has contributed to the local architectural landscape designing projects such as MoCo Arts, Mayfair Farm Event Barn, Monadnock Food Co-op Addition, Nova Arts & Brewbakers, Jenna’s Butcher, Swanzey Fire Station, Dentist and Multi-family Mixed-Use Building in Peterborough, and more.

Our projects have been widely recognized in the field, with works published in New Hampshire Home, Dwell, and Sheri Koones’ architecture book, ADUs: The Perfect Housing Solution. kcs ARCHITECTS has received the prestigious 2020 AIA New Hampshire Rick and Duffy Monahon Award for Design Excellence in Architectural Restoration and Preservation, celebrating its expertise in historic renovations. More recently, our firm was honored with the 2024 AIA New Hampshire Merit Award for its thoughtful design of the "Not-So-Tiny Lake House" on Spofford Lake, just one of many projects that highlights kcs ARCHITECTS’ talent in crafting innovative, site-sensitive architecture.
